Homemade Cappuccino Mix From Pantry Staples

Jump to the part you need

Lynn stirs together a shelf-stable mocha cappuccino mix from instant coffee, powdered milk, sugar, cocoa, cinnamon and nutmeg, and keeps it in a quart jar in the pantry. At the end she makes a cup with hot water so you can see how it comes out.

What Lynn shows you

  • Any instant coffee will do - she used Maxwell House "because it was the cheapest."
  • The cocoa is what makes it a mocha; the cinnamon and "just a tiny bit" of nutmeg are what make it taste like fall. She says it smells almost like pumpkin spice.
  • She mixes and stores it in a quart jar rather than a pint, specifically because the extra headroom lets her shake it up properly.
  • To make a cup she stirs about two tablespoons of the mix into hot water she heated in the microwave.
  • She suggests jars of it as Christmas gifts - "you can make cappuccinos in a jar and give them for Christmas."
